Trauma Triggers AutoImmune Disorders – The Right Therapy Speeds Healing

Trauma Therapy Glynis Sherwood

I’ve noticed over the years that many of my clients who have experienced trauma and other adverse childhood experiences (ACE) tend to suffer from higher incidences of autoimmune disorders, such as Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Chronic Fatigue and other inflammatory conditions. A June 2018 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms the connection.

Effective Trauma Therapy needs to include body based interventions – such as Hypnosis, guided visualizations, EMDR, etc. – to settle down the upset in the emotional brain, and to build a bridge to the front brain, where traumatic stress responses are reprocessed and become more neutralized over time.  These novel associations help create new neural pathways to healing and build the foundation to physical as well as emotional recovery.
